What daypacks do we use and love?

The styles, shapes, and sizes of daypacks are virtually limitless, not to mention overwhelming. You can find a pack specific to just about every outdoor activity and in just about any capacity. There are so many to choose from so let our staff help you out.

How do we define a daypack?

When we think of daypacks we consider pack capacity of 30 liters or less, those that have hydration sleeves, and packs that are light weight, easy to put on and off to grab snacks, water, or an extra layer.  Packs that are brightly colored, have a lot of pockets, and attachments points are favorite choices.  Below are 5 of our staff’s go-to packs.  You can find all these picks at River Rock.

This daypack is great for either a day hike or a day ride on your mountain or road bike.  It’s easy to stuff your wet gear in the mesh pockets or hook your hat or helmet on the lidlock attachment point.  Osprey is known for its suspension systems and included this technology in both the women’s and men’s pack.  The Airscape ventilation provides substantial air flow with a contouring help belt which is comfortable and practical with added zippered pockets.  Our manager and owner, April, carries this pack as a daily work bag because of the large, easy access pocket.

Gear attachment points, ventilated back, and easy stow pockets makes this a great daypack choice.

  • Liters: 22
  • Weight: 1LB 3OZ
  • Waterproof: NO
  • Material: 210D Rip stop, 420 Abrasia
  • Hydration: Hydrapack compatible
  • Straps: Rope strap, ice tool pockets, three-point haul system with removable crampon straps

This pack is perfect for the hiker who likes to climb or climber who likes to hike.  It contains outside gear straps for climbers tools – ice ax, crampons, and rope straps.  You can also use the straps to hang your climbing shoes so they don’t stink up your pack.  If you are on flat ground and don’t expect to run into a climbable crag, then the bag is hydration compatible with room for light layers and snacks.  Its narrow profile keeps the pack light and maneuverable for rock scrambles or speed hiking.  Our climbing guide and owner, Keith, caries this pack during warmer months when he requires fewer layers and when the weather is more predictable.

Multi-functional, light, crag pack great for the climber who also likes to hike.

This is a great daypack and all around town pack.  It features an easy access sleeve for your water bladder, allowing you to fill up the bladder without removing it from the pack.  It can also serve as a pod on many of Osprey’s larger backpacks adding an additional 13 liters and providing a convenient removable daypack option.  The mesh back panel is comfortable and cooling.  There are a ton of colors adding to the fun of this pack.  This is staple in the River Rock staff’s closet and is used as a day hiker, everyday pack, and you can catch the team wearing it around town to the Farmer’s Market.

A triple threat – cool, comfortable, cost conscious – must have for everyone.
