Some of my happiest memories come from the outdoors: overnight scout camp, fishing trips along the upper Potomac with my father, hiking the billy-goat trail along the C&O canal, backpacking with my husband, and raising our kids on the river to enjoy both kayaking and paddle boarding.
Nature continues to be a huge inspiration for me and often features in my writing, poetry and photography. I love how a hike or paddle on the water can turn into an essay, poem or even spark a new plot twist in a story. Adventuring outdoors is often just the antidote I need to overcome the daily mindstorm of to-do lists and activate my most creative, problem-solving self.
I’m a member of the Water Street Writers, a group that formed in an art studio of the same name, in what is currently the boat room of the shop. I’ve authored a chapbook of poems, The Rise of Jennifer, and my writing has appeared in Belle Grace Magazine, the Fredericksburg Literary and Art Review as well as in children’s magazines.
